Lawrence Odbert Gill, 59, of Kingwood, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025, in his home. He was born February 28, 1966, in Washington, DC, a son of the late Clifton Odbert and Janette Elizabeth Shackelford Gill.
Lawrence was a 1984 graduate of Gilmer County High School.
Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army January 9, 1986. While serving in the Army he worked in military intelligence at Fort Huachuca.
After his military service, Lawrence worked at WVU Medicine and then became a correctional officer in the Martinsburg area, retiring in 2022.
After his retirement, he moved to Kingwood and began living with his sister, Diane and her husband, Jon Wilhelm. Lawrence loved riding his 4-wheeler and playing World of Warcraft. He was also an avid gun collector. He was a fantastic storyteller and could make anyone laugh. Lawrence never met a stranger or anyone who didn’t like him.
He is survived by his brother, Clifton David Gill and wife Wendy of Morgantown; his sister, Diane Wilhelm and husband Jonathan, with whom he resided; nieces, Corrine Nicholson and husband Justin of Morgantown, Danelle Tucker of Kingwood, and Clarissa Gill of Morgantown; nephew, Michael Gill
and wife Taylor of Morgantown.
In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by his sister, Debra Lynn Gill.
To honor his wishes, Lawrence will be cremated.
A memorial service will be held in Field Funeral Home in Masontown, from 12 noon until the 1 p.m. time of service Saturday, April 5, with Pastor Sam Moon officiating.
The Field Funeral Home in Masontown, will provide compassionate and professional cremation services.
