Charles L. Harner Jr.

Charles L. Harner Jr. passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2025, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Born May 3, 1945, in Morgantown, he was a son of the late Charles and Bina Lee Harner.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Toni; a daughter, Susan (Eric) Pippi; and a beloved grandson, Landon Pippi. He is also survived by a brother, Richard (Mary Ann); and many nieces and nephews.

Charlie graduated from Morgantown High School, Class of 1963, and attended West Virginia University.

He was a Morgantown City Firefighter, IAFF Local 313, and retired after 30 years of service. He also was an owner / operator of Harner’s Gulf in Westover, a member of the Army Reserves 354th Ordinance Company for six years, and worked for G.E. Specialty Chemicals for 20 years.

Charlie enjoyed bowling and golf, but most enjoyed being actively involved in Susan’s various year-round sports from her grade school years through high school. In his later years, his young grandson filled his life with joy.

A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday morning, March 29, in Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, at which time Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati will offer a blessing service. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Charles’ family would like to thank the staff and management at White Oaks in Bridgeport for their excellent care and attention given to Charlie throughout the last two months he spent there. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Azzoug and his nurse, Joyce, at Ruby Hospital for their many years trying to improve Charlie’s quality of life.
