Carla Jo “Mammy” McFarland, 61, beloved mother, grandmother and cherished friend, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025, in Morgantown, the town she was born May 19, 1963.
She served with compassion at WVU Student Health, a role that enabled her to extend her care beyond family and friends. Her commitment to enriching her surroundings was eclipsed only by her devotion to her family, which remained her paramount joy and priority.
She is survived by her parents, Virgil Lee Coulter of Morgantown, and Judy Ann Leighty of Queen Valley, Ariz. Carla’s legacy is carried on through her children, Danielle, Mikelyn, Michael (Amber), Christopher (Renee), Becca, Tristan, Shawn and Aalayia McFarland. She was the proud matriarch of a family that also included her siblings, Butch, Greg and Misty; her favorite aunt, Mary Jane Coulter; and her treasured eight grandchildren, who were the apples of her eye: Aden, Ari, Jayden, Wyatt, Waylon, Rylee, Grady, and Zander. Also surviving are her good friends, who were such a help to her, Pam Wolfe and Robin Jones.
Carla was a woman of many passions, always putting others before herself, especially her adored grandchildren. Her pastimes included sewing and flower gardening, though she playfully struggled with her dogs who shared an equal enthusiasm for her floral arrangements. Wapacoma campgrounds bore witness to countless cherished family gatherings, echoing with laughter and joy. An avid reader, she consumed literature of every genre, always seeking to learn and grow.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Kim McFarland; and her stepfather, Dennis Ingersoll.
Carla’s radiant spirit and selfless love have left an indelible mark on this world. Her family and friends will forever cherish her memory and the warmth she brought into their lives.
Family and friends are invited to gather in the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home from 4 until the time of the funeral service at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 27, with Brad Hudson officiating. The family will honor her request for cremation.
