Evalene Blanche DeBerry

Evalene Blanche DeBerry, 95, of Kingwood, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025. She was born February 8, 1930, in Kingwood, a daughter of the late Vernon E. Uphold and Cora B. Shrout Uphold.
Evalene loved Jesus with her whole heart and dedicated her life to serving him. She was a devoted mother who loved caring for her family.
She was an amazing cook who enjoyed serving everyone that visited with her buckwheat cakes, homemade bread and apple butter. She loved to play the guitar and piano, in which she self-taught. She was also a song writer. In the ‘70s and ‘80s, she played the guitar and sang solo on TV on Saturdays at a church in Weston. She also loved raising many litters of kittens. Evalene was a faithful member of the Irona Full Gospel Assembly Church in Irona. She graduated from Kingwood High School, and retired from Sterling Faucet.
Evalene is survived by three children; David and wife Cheryl of Masontown, and Tim and wife Connie of Tunnelton; Cindy and husband Tim Stone of Points; 19 grandkids, 40 great- grandkids, 10 great- great-grandkids; many nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, Wilma Keefer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James DeBerry Sr.; her sister, Lucille Uphold; and her brother, Ernest Uphold; three sons, Roger Sr., James Jr., and Steven; one daughter, Brenda DeBerry Hawkins; one nephew, Gary Uphold; one granddaughter, Sabrina DeBerry; and one great- grandson, Anthoney Dankulich.
Friends may gather for a visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 28, in Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood. Additional visitation will be held Saturday, March 29, from 10 until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Tim Warnick, with interment following at DeBerry Cemetery.
