Mildred Anna Viola

Mildred Anna Viola, 97, of Westover, died Tuesday, October 29, 2024, in Select Specialty Hospital/Mon Health. Born May 3, 1927, in Morgantown, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary Petrock Wallo, who immigrated to America from Slovakia in the early 1900s.
She was Catholic and a member of St. Francis de Sales Parish.
Mildred grew up on a farm in Hildebrand, in rural Monongalia County, during the Great Depression, and attended Waitman-Barbe School and Morgantown High.
During and after World War II, she worked at McCrory’s five-and-dime store on High Street.
She married Joseph Albino Viola, a coal miner and World War II veteran, and together they raised three children. She was a homemaker and loved all aspects of domestic life; taking care of her home, cooking, sewing, embroidery and crochet, canning homegrown vegetables, hanging out clothes, but most of all spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and four sisters.
She is survived by her children, Joseph O. Viola (wife Betsy) of Eglon, Rebecca George (husband Leonard) of Mt. Morris, Pa., and Annette Viola of Westover; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
