Prep Roundup: University girls will defend team title in championship rematch

CHARLESTON — The University girls’ tennis team will defend their team title in a rematch of last year’s championship against George Washington today at the 2024 WVSSAC state tennis tournament in Charleston.

The Hawks advanced to the championship match with a pair of team wins on Thursday over Cabell Midland 4-1 in the quarterfinal round and over Parkersburg in the semifinal.

The Morgantown girls made it to the semifinal round with a dramatic 4-3 win over Washington in the quarterfinals. The Mohigans trailed 3-1 before winning the final three singles matches to beat the Patriots. Grace Forman’s 8-6 win in No. 4 singles clinched the victory.

The dream of an all-Mon County championship was dashed as MHS fell to No. 1 seed George Washington 4-0 in the semifinal round.
