Underground Printing is tops in custom T-shirt business

Over the last 15 years, Underground Printing has become a go-to source of customized T-shirts, apparel and accessories. The WVU School of Dentistry and the City of Morgantown are among the entities that have used UGP’s services. The business first opened on Fayette Street in downtown Morgantown in November of 2008. The parent business, however, is much older than that. Founders Rishi Narayan and Ryan Gregg originally began screen printing gear out of a dorm room at the University of Michigan in 2001. Now headquartered in a 172,000-square-foot facility in Ypsilanti, Mich., UGP has expanded nationwide and boasts nearly

30 locations.

Notably, the Morgantown UGP was one of two locations that moved to a different storefront last year to accommodate growth. In September 2023, the hole-in-the-wall Fayette location shifted to 1042 University Ave., a 1,664-square-foot unit in the new development known as “The Deck.”

The strategic move increases UGP’s accessibility for the West Virginia University community, local businesses and

residents alike. Open from 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

Monday through Saturday, the new location serves patrons with diverse schedules

while maintaining an online storefront

For those still seeking the perfect logo or design, UGP has a design team available to transform ideas into reality. Between those two ends of the spectrum is a catalog of thousands of templates patrons can customize.

In contrast to many businesses that require minimum orders of six to 12 shirts, UGP has select T-shirts available for no minimum order. As someone with a demonstrated record of creating one-of-a-kind T-shirts to give as gag gifts, this is my personal favorite feature.
