Five people were killed in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Fayette County, Pa.
Pennsylvania State Police public information officer Kalee Barnhart said state troopers were called to the intersection of U.S. Route 40 and New Meadow Run Drive in Wharton Township, near Farmington at about 1:21 p.m.
“It was a tractor-trailer and two other passenger vehicles; it was a three-vehicle crash,” Barnhart said.
Barnhart said investigators are still looking at evidence and really aren’t sure how the crash happened.
“In one of the passenger vehicles, there were five deceased, one of them being an infant,” Barnhart said.
Due to the severity of the crash, the Fayette County district attorney’s office also responded to the scene.
“He is normally included in all of our investigations, so he was on scene to help and if down the road we do file charges, he’ll help,” Barnhart said.
U.S. Route 40 was closed during the investigation in both directions between the intersection of state Route 381 and the intersection of Dinner Bell-5 Forks Road and Dinner Bell Ohiopyle Road until around 7 p.m.
Farmington, Pa., is less than 20 miles from Bruceton Mills.
