Trinity Christian’s Will McPherson signs to play baseball in college

MORGANTOWN -- Will McPherson has big plans for his senior season as a pitcher on the Trinity Christian baseball team.

"I want to try and break the strikeout record at the school," McPherson said. "As a team, I think we can win the section this year instead of just making it four games in. I think we can win the sectional and maybe compete for a regional title."

Before any of that, however, McPherson finalized his future plans by signing to play baseball at Allegany College of Maryland during a ceremony Friday afternoon at Trinity.

"It feels great," he said. "I've worked for this moment since I started playing baseball when I was three. It's pretty fun to enjoy this moment."

Allegany is a two-year college in Cumberland, Maryland that competes in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference.

McPherson didn't start to consider playing in college until last season.

"I went to a showcase at Wild Things Park," he said. "Allegany saw me and offered me."

McPherson emerged as Trinity's ace last year as the Warriors enjoyed a bit of a breakthrough season. For the first time in a long time, Trinity made it into the winner's bracket of its section tournament, winning games over Clay-Battelle and Notre Dame before being eliminated by Tygarts Valley. 

It'll take plenty of hard work for Trinity to make it out of a section crowded with six teams, but that's part of what makes McPherson love baseball in the first place.

"It's the work and the effort that I have to put into it," he said, "and the grit that's part of the game."
