MORGANTOWN – Here is a sampling of bills introduced Wednesday, Jan. 31. Local sponsors and cosponsors are noted.

  • SB 611, to allow prosecuting attorney vehicles to have flashing red warning lights. Sen, Jay Taylor, R-Taylor, lead sponsor.
  • HB 5373, to prohibit the changing of party affiliation from Independent or no party to a party affiliation fewer than 60 days prior to running for office.
  • HB 5378, to clarify that impermissible discrimination includes discrimination based on certain hair textures and styles. Delegates Evan Hansen and John Williams, D-Monongalia, and Joey Garcia, D-Marion, co-sponsors.
  • HB 5386, all signs intended to warn drivers that work is being conducted, including, but not limited to, “flagger ahead” signs, must be removed from the roadway within 30 minutes of cessation of or removal of flaggers on any and all public roadways within the state.
  • HB 5392, to eliminate the motor fuel excise tax and to replace any income from the tax with an equivalent increase in the state sales tax.
  • HB 5394, to increase penalties for the sale of e-cigarettes, vapes, or cartridges to anyone under 18 years of age, making it a misdemeanor.
  • HB 5400, to create the Unauthorized Alien Transport Program within the Department of Homeland Security’s Division of Administrative Services to facilitate the transport of inspected unauthorized aliens within the United States.
