Mountaineer Middle students say ‘thank you’ with homemade cards

In a display of gratitude and community spirit, students from a local middle school, led by Ms. Porter and Mrs. Schap, have taken a creative step to show their appreciation for the first responders of Monongalia County.

In a collaborative effort, Selena Porter, math transition support specialist, and Tiffany Charlet Schap, art teacher, and students from Mountaineer Middle School (MMS) joined forces to collect cookies and create personalized Christmas cards for those who tirelessly serve the community.

Schap’s art classes demonstrated their artistic talents and thoughtful sentiments by personalizing over 200 cards, each an expression of thanks and seasonal cheer.

These handmade tokens of appreciation were distributed to several key service departments in the area, including the Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Department, the Morgantown Police Department, the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department and Monongalia EMS.

This gesture highlights the school’s commitment to fostering a sense of community and gratitude among its students.

The initiative not only brought together students in a creative endeavor but also provided a platform for them to express their gratitude to those who dedicate their lives to public service. The first responders, who often work under challenging conditions — especially during the holiday season — received these tokens of appreciation with great enthusiasm and gratitude.

The school’s effort is an example of how community and education can come together to create a positive impact. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of acknowledging and appreciating the everyday heroes in our lives.
