Residents don running shoes for annual holiday 5K

Not everyone spends Thanksgiving stuffing their faces and watching football.

For the more active among us, there’s the annual Morgantown Turkey Trot, a 5K walk/run that Mixbook recently ranked one of America’s most popular Thanksgiving Day events.

According to a press release, the photo book brand “ran a survey of 3,000 Americans to establish which iconic Thanksgiving celebration they would most like to experience in 2023.”

Morgantown’s famous holiday run came in at No. 33.

Open to people of all ages, Thursday’s Turkey Trot featured awards for the top three male and female finishers for the running and walking categories. There was also an event for the little ones — an 800-meter Turkey Fun Run.

The run began at the blue track by the WVU Coliseum before continuing on through town and then onto the rail-trail and finishing behind the Seneca Center at Morgantown Running.

The first 800 people to register for this year’s Turkey Trot received a pair of festive commemorative socks.
