Purses For Power program collects much-needed supplies for victims

Women’s Energy Network of West Virginia (WEN WV) announced the third year of the Purses for Power program in West Virginia.

Last year, WEN WV donated over 100 purses to Hope Inc., Phoenix House, Sojourner’s (YWCA Shelter) and United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties, and United Way of Marion County, among others. These donations help support women and children entering shelters in West Virginia after crimes of domestic or sexual violence, as well as other organizations supporting underrepresented populations.

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness month this October, WEN WV will once again be collecting purses and personal items for victims of domestic abuse as they make their journey towards a life free of violence.

Individuals can help by donating new or gently used purses, unused personal hygiene items (shampoos, lotion, toothpaste, soap), cosmetics (make-up, perfume, face cream, nail polish), gift cards (gas, food, phone), or gloves and socks. No item is too small to help a family or individual in need. Packed purses will be donated to local shelters in early December.

Donations can be dropped off at Diversified Energy, 414 Summers St., Charleston; Babst Calland, 300 Summers St., Charleston; Antero Resources, 535 White Oaks, Bridgeport; Steptoe & Johnson, 1000 Swiss Pine Way, Suite 200, Morgantown; and Ascent Consulting & Engineering, 1700 Anmore Road, Bridgeport.
