Police seek suspect in Monday night shooting

Local police are seeking information regarding a shooting Monday evening on Don Knotts Boulevard near the Waterfront Hotel in Morgantown.

At about 9:16 p.m. Monday, Morgantown Police officers responded to a car accident near the hotel. When they got there, officers discovered the driver of one of the vehicles had a gunshot wound to the right shoulder area, according to a press release.

Police say other parties involved reported seeing a man fleeing on foot from the area.

MPD Chief Eric Powell told The Dominion Post investigators are still trying to determine the sequence of events, but at this point they believe the suspect was a passenger in the vehicle being driven by the victim.

Powell said the suspect was described by a witness as a Black male with short hair, wearing black jeans and a black leather jacket. No other information is available at this point.

The victim was transported to the hospital by Mon EMS with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Their current condition is unknown.
