Faculty Senate votes no confidence in Gordon Gee

The West Virginia University Faculty Senate issued a vote of no confidence in President Gordon Gee on Wednesday.

The vote passed, with 797 votes of no confidence and 100 votes against the motion.

The group also voted on a resolution to freeze the university’s Academic Transformation plans. That vote passed 747 to 79.

The transformation — aimed at reducing costs by $45 million — has resulted in the proposed discontinuance of dozens of programs and majors at the university, as well as reductions in faculty. It has been met with opposition from faculty, students and alumni.

The WVU Board of Governors will consider final recommendations next week in regards to proposed cuts.
