WVU lucky to have a coach like Neal Brown

As we get ready for another season of Mountaineer football, I want to say how much I appreciate Coach Neal Brown.

I have had experience (in the 1950s after graduating from WVU) as a teacher and high school football coach. I still hear from some of my students and athletes 72 years later. They have shared ways the I have helped shape their lives with my teaching and example. It’s rewarding to know I made a positive impact in their lives.

It is important for a team to have a coach with strong character who cares about each athlete under his supervision not only as an athlete, but as a complete person on and off the field. Coach Brown is a man like that. He encourages his athletes to be the best they can be and also guides them to make a difference after their football career is over.

It’s satisfying to have a good team and a winning record, but it’s more important to build strong character as athletes go through this time in their lives. Only a few will go on to achieve the professional football dream. But all of them will go on to impact the people around them, including their families. We have an excellent coach who leads by example.

I’m proud to be a Mountaineer and am looking forward to a great season under Coach Neal Brown.

Let’s Go Mountaineers — we’re with you rain or shine!
