Mylan Park to host Freedom Day on Saturday

Mylan Park will host its third annual Freedom Day from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Hazel & J.W. Ruby Community Center and Sports Complex.

The free event features a variety of activities and local businesses. Last year’s event saw close to 2,000 attendees.

“We always look forward to this event to show off our facilities and the local resources in our area,” said Jennifer Lainhart, director of the Aquatic Center & Track Complex at Mylan Park. “Last year, we were able to showcase the park’s newest addition, the Hazel & J.W. Ruby Community Center Sports Complex. Next year we hope to share a couple of new additions.”

Freedom Day will feature concessions, roller skating, bounce houses, sports, art activities, giveaways and more. Participants can also enjoy half-price swimming at the Aquatic Center.

Upon arrival, attendees will check in at the front of the community center to receive additional information on the activities offered.

Early birds will receive special giveaways and trinkets, enjoy fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies from the PACE Beehive Café and be entered to win raffle prizes.

“Every year, we continue to add new local businesses and featured activities as well as showcase unique resources and services available in our area,” Lainhart said. “It’s incredibly rewarding to open up the facilities for our community to come together and engage with the quality-of-life amenities and programming we provide,” said Michael McGovern, new general manager of Mylan Park.
