Kennedy Award winner joining WVU as a walk-on

MORGANTOWN — The best high school football player in West Virginia will suit up for the Mountaineers next season as Independence High School’s Judah Price announced Thursday morning that he will join the WVU football team as a walk-on.

Price, the 2022 Kennedy Award winner and 2022-23 Gatorade State Player of the Year, ran for 2,587 yards and 49 touchdowns during his senior season, shattering the state single-season scoring record of 276 previously held by Poca’s Ethan Payne.

In the Class AA state championship against Herbert Hoover, Price ran for 376 yards as the Patriots claimed the first state title in school history. Price, unsurprisingly, also won the Curt Warner Award as the state’s top running back.

Price held offers from Waynesburg, Alderson Broaddus, Westminster and West Virginia State. He was also drawing interest from Bethany, Ursinus and Concord. In addition to football, Price also received interest from the WVU wrestling team.

Price joins a WVU running back room that includes returners CJ Donaldson, Justin Johnson and Jaylen Anderson. The Mountaineers are also adding true freshmen Jahiem White and DJ Oliver on scholarship.
