Delegate Danielle Walker to leave House for post at West Virginia ACLU

MORGANTOWN – Delegate Danielle Walker, D-Monongalia, will step down from her House seat and her role as vice chair of the state Democratic Party to take a new job as executive director of the ACLU of West Virginia.

Walker, of Morgantown, will start her new job April 17, according to an announcement by West Virginia Democratic Women.

The Dominion Post will be talking with Walker later this week for a weekend story on her new role and a look back at her legislative career. She was first elected to the House in 2018 and is in her third term.

The House speaker and clerk have not yet received Walker’s resignation letter, the House speaker’s spokeswoman said.

According to state code, the county party executive committee will within 15 days of Walker’s seat becoming vacant to submit a list of three potential successors to the governor. The governor must then, within five days, appoint one person from the list to fill the seat.

The ACLU of West Virginia did not respond to a request for comment.
