Selby Highland

Selby Arnett Highland Jr., 77, of Short Gap, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, after fighting a five month courageous battle with metastasized melanoma.

Selby was born on April 4, 1945, in Clarksburg. He was the son of the late Selby Arnett Highland Sr. and Madge Lovetta (Talkington) Highland.

Selby graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1970. He started his career as an accountant at Kelly-Springfield Tire Company in Cumberland, Md. and held various other manager positions throughout his career. When Kelly-Springfield closed its doors, he commuted to Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for four years until he retired. During his retirement, he did appraisals for Westland Appraisals out of Keyser and then reconciled books for Humpty Dumpty Learning Center in Cumberland, Md.

Selby loved his family. He was a wonderful husband, father and Pap Pap to four grandsons. He was so proud of all of them. His hobbies included family vacations, collecting coins, going to the grandsons’ activities, traveling to Winchester to see family and watching and cheering for the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Selby is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Pamela Diane (Jabour) Highland; children, Ashley Highland and wife Barbara and Tara (Highland) McInturff and husband Kyle; and grandsons, Daniel Highland, Andrew Highland, Hayden McInturff and Landon McInturff.

Family and friends of Selby will be received at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care,108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown, from 10 a.m. until the time of a brief funeral service at noon on Friday, March 10. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.

The family asks everyone to dress casually and wear their West Virginia blue and gold to honor Selby’s love for West Virginia.
