On Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, Dewey Vance Rotruck Jr., 78, passed away by the side of his wife and daughters in his home after a battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Dewey was born on Nov. 13, 1944, in Keyser, to Dewey and Betty (Liller) Rotruck, of Burlington, Mineral County.
At the age of 21, Dewey enlisted in the United States Army, and prior to deployment to Vietnam, married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Linda Lou Gray. Upon his safe return to the United States, he worked in the insurance industry with a career spanning over four decades. He eventually opened his own business, Rotruck Insurance Agency Inc., before his retirement. Together, Dewey and Linda raised two strong and independent daughters, Julie and Bethany.
Dewey was a man of strong Christian faith with a servant’s heart giving his time to help his church family by singing tenor in the choir and serving in numerous leadership roles. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and many other charitable organizations. He was even known to pick up groceries for some of his homebound insurance clients. Dewey was a proud member of Rotary International and Motorcycling Rotarians and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Through Rotary Youth Exchange, Dewey and Linda served as host parents to Morten (Mette) Fisker and Andreina (Garrett) Ballester-Nieto. Dewey loved Mountaineer football, camping, biking and trail walking. Most of all, he loved God and his family.
Dewey is survived by his wife, Linda (Gray) Rotruck, of Morgantown; daughters Julie (James) Rohrbaugh, of Pittsburgh, and Bethany (James “Bo”) Moseley, of Twinsburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Natalie and Alex Rohrbaugh, and Ethan and Owen Moseley; sisters, Patricia Taylor, of Burlington, Mary Donohoe, of Winchester, Va., and Sharon (Paul) Everett, of Millersburg, Pa.; brother, Donald Ray (Cheryl), of Romney; sister-in-law, Janice (Gene) Clem, of Burlington; and 19 nieces and 12 nephews. In addition to his parents, Dewey is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Ruth Millar, nephew, Gene C. Clem II; and brothers-in-law Brandon Donohoe and Robert Taylor.
If you knew Dewey and are so inclined, the family would welcome any notes of encouragement or memories you may have of him. Please send remembrances to deweymemories@gmail.com. Hastings Funeral Home Omega Crematory is entrusted with cremation arrangements.
A celebration of life with military honors will be held at a location to be announced later on Saturday, June 10, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to any of the following charities that were close to Dewey’s heart: Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Breast Cancer Research Foundation or Epilepsy Foundation of America.
