Linda Bungard

Linda Rae Gorrell Bungard, 79 of Morgantown, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born June 30, 1943 in St. Albans, a daughter of the late Chester W. Gorrell and Unice M. Bennett. Linda was a graduate of St. Albans High School and West Virginia University and retired from Monongalia County Technical and Education Center. Her passion for learning and love of children lead to a career in teaching, beginning as a special education teacher and eventually adult education and literacy volunteers.

She enjoyed gardening and taking great pride in her spring flower beds, loved animals and was an avid bird watcher. She also enjoyed traveling, spending time with family every summer in the outer banks and visiting Europe with her daughter and son-in-law. Her greatest passion was the time she spent with the joys of her life, her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Paul Bungard, in 2009.

She is survived by her children, Joseph Bungard (Heather), of Morgantown, and Laura Bungard Papini (Filippo), of Los Angeles; sister, Jane Harvey, of Morgantown; and grandchildren, Riley Bungard and Ronan Bungard, of Morgantown, and Sofia Papini, of Los Angeles.

A celebration gathering of family and friends will be at Dering-Henson Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the noon time of remembrances and reflections on Monday, Feb. 20.
