Monongalia County Sheriff Deputies arrested Gary L. Simons, 43, on Wednesday, after he allegedly entered a Grafton Road residence and attacked the female inside.
Simons entered the residence at night and used his hands to choke the female, a criminal complaint said. Deputies reported seeing the victim had injuries consistent with being choked.
Court records show Simons was previously arrested on domestic battery and unlawful contact charges in Nov. 2022, and had an active bond condition prohibiting him from being around the victim or at her residence.
After Wednesday’s encounter with Simons, the woman was able to run from the residence in her bare feet and call 911.
Simons was found still inside the residence, the complaint said, and told deputies the female had “struck him in the head with a frying pan”; however, deputies reported his injuries appeared to be more consistent with defensive or self-inflicted wounds.
Simons also allegedly admitted to using methamphetamine prior to entering the home.
According to the complaint, the victim answered yes to all but two of the 16 questions on the state’s Dangerousness-Lethality Assessment Guide (DLAG) form.
Simons is being charged with burglary and strangulation. He pleaded not guilty to the charges during an arraignment hearing in Monongalia County Magistrate Court on Wednesday.
He is currently being held at North Central Regional Jail on $100,000 bond.
