Michael Pinion

Michael Samuel Pinion, 69, of Morgantown, passed away on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at the Madison House surrounded by family.

Michael was born Feb. 23, 1953, son of the late Samuel Michael and Mary (Necoranec) Pinion, of Morgantown.

Born and raised in Morgantown, Michael attended St. Francis Catholic School, where he loved playing basketball. He graduated in 1971 and went on to earn a degree in economics from Bethany College, where he was president of his fraternity. Michael then spent a few years in Lake Placid training to luge for the 1980 Winter Olympics. Afterwards, he moved to New York City. It was there that he met his wife and had his first son, Sam. Michael and his family moved back to Morgantown, where he and Suzanne raised their sons, coached their little league teams, attended sporting and school events at St Francis and watched their children grow into fine young men.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Pinion; his children: Sam, Max and partner Katie Snider, Liam and Dominic; and his dear cousin, Jane Hutchison and her husband, William.

Friends and family will be received at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, officiated by Father John DiBacco.

In lieu of flowers, Michael’s family encourages donations be made in Michael’s memory to St. Francis School and/or St. Ursula Food Pantry.

Send condolences to the funeral home’s website, and if you do so, please address Michael by his first name, as Michael would have told you himself “Mr. Pinion was his father.”
