Morgantown business owner gives back to local vets

Veterans help veterans.

That’s what Ziebart Morgantown owner Nick Lambie said when asked why he chose to participate in this year’s “Ziebart Gives Back” initiative which partnered with the American Red Cross’ “Holidays for Heroes” program.

The annual Red Cross initiative focuses on offering a variety of ways businesses and individuals can give back to veterans and military personnel.

A veteran himself, Lambie thought this would be the perfect way to assist his military family.

“There are a lot of groups out there and they all need help, but you know I’m a veteran and veterans help veterans,” he said.  “It’s near and dear to our hearts and it means a good bit to be able to help them out.”

Throughout December, Lambie’s Ziebart location collected a variety of toiletry items for vets at the local Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital.  “You know, toothbrush, toothpaste, stuff like that, as well as holiday cards,” he said.

Other items collected included deodorant, socks, razors and shaving cream, playing cards, puzzle books and more that Lambie took to the Red Cross who will make “comfort kits” to distribute to vets at the hospital.

“We had a few pretty big boxes full of stuff and then we donated over $1,000 monetarily to the cause,” said Lambie, who personally donated $1,000 to the Red Cross program.

Lambie said he encourages anyone who may still want to help to make a donation to the American Red Cross.

“The Holidays for Heroes was in partnership with the Red Cross and they always need help and donations,” he said.
