
Pastor Francis Dewey “Jake” Nicholson, 85, of Morgantown, passed away on Friday, Dec. 16, at Mon Health Medical Center.
Jake was the pastor of Nicholson Chapel for several years. He loved to farm. Whether plowing the field or feeding the cows, he relished in it. Of course, he always had a special affinity for his cows. He also loved Pastoring churches and families alike. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He always made and enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, of whom there were many.
Jake was born on Dec. 5, 1937, in Morgantown, the son of the late George Dewey Nicholson and Margie (Murray) Nicholson.
Jake is survived by his wife, Patty Nicholson; his two children, Virgil and Deborah Nicholson, and Roda and Bob Nicholson; siblings, Elmer “Scoop” Nicholson and Mearl McDonald; stepchildren, Becky and Randy Whaley, Larry and Susie Hilling and Debbie, Lynn and Stephanie Hilling; grandchildren, Virgil and Ashley Nicholson, Nathan and Kristin Nicholson, Bill and Vickey Nicholson, Bobby Nicholson, Eric and Ceann Nicholson; 13 step-grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren;
In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Joan Nicholson; nine brothers and sisters; a grandson, Kenneth Dewey; and two stepsons, Terry and David Hilling.
Friends and family will be received at Nicholson Chapel, Summer School Road, from 3-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at
11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21 with Pastor Kenny Reed officiating. Burial
will follow at Nicholson Cemetery.
