WVU loses Kaden Prather to transfer portal

MORGANTOWN — Wide receiver Kaden Prather will be leaving WVU via the transfer portal, the talented sophomore announced on Twitter Monday morning.

Prather, a sophomore from Maryland, was one of WVU’s main receiving targets this season, catching 52 passes for 501 yards and three touchdowns. His best game as a Mountaineer came against Baylor this season when he made eight receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown.

Prather’s departure means WVU has lost all four of its leading receivers from this season. Senior Bryce Ford-Wheaton and Sam James both chose the NFL draft over using their extra year of eligibility, while sophomore Reese Smith also left for the portal.

WVU’s leading receivers from this season that are still on roster are junior Cortez Brown (147 yards) and sophomore Jeremiah Aaron (124 yards). The only other receiver who caught a pass this season is redshirt-freshman Preston Fox, who made four receptions for 41 yards and a score.

The Mountaineers have four wide receiver recruits committed in the upcoming 2023 class, who can start to sign during the early signing period on Dec. 21. That group is headlined by four-star recruit Rodney Gallagher, who reaffirmed his commitment on Sunday.
