Delbert Chipps

Delbert Kenneth Chipps, 88, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Masontown, passed away Nov. 8, 2022. He was born in Masontown on June 6, 1934, a son of the late Lonnie and Edith Chipps.

He worked as a coal miner for many years, moved to Lakeland, Fla. in 1994, and worked for DJ Trusses until his retirement at age 86. His hobbies included watching the Dallas Cowboys football games and watching Western films. His favorite author was Zane Grey. Delbert also enjoyed spending time with Tanner and Sugar, his favorite dogs.

Delbert is survived by one son, Gerald “Jerry” Chipps, of Polk City, Fla.; one daughter, Leslie Roth and husband Gary, of Lakeland, Fla.; and 15 grandchildren, Ruth, Misha, Joshua, Rachel, Robbie, Rebekah, Aaron, Jay, Stacy, A.J., Adam, Bryan, Isaac, Blythe and Garrett. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Gerald Chipps, Dorothy Braham and Paul Chipps; his former wife, Ruth Lucille Chipps; one daughter, Debra Lynn Kirby; and one granddaughter, Ashley Lynne Roth. Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. time of service on Wednesday, Nov. 16, with the Rev. Dr. David Spence officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Kingwood.
