Theodore Latusek

Theodore “Ted” Matthew Latusek Jr. passed quietly in the comfort of his home in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., surrounded by loved ones on Oct. 19, 2022. He was born in Morgantown, on Sept. 25, 1950, to the late Theodore Matthew Latusek Sr. and the late Doris Jean Latusek. Ted was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Joseph, and infant daughter, Amanda Lynn.

He was a lifelong resident of West Virginia until 2012 when he moved to Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. Ted was dedicated to his family and friends, his coal mining career and various causes he supported to improve communities.

Ted is survived by his loving wife, Donna Jean Latusek and his daughter Jennifer “Nicki” Latusek-Nabholz (Chris), of Freeport, Fla. His goal was to be the Papaw he never had to his grandsons, Logan Matthew and Josiah Lee Nabholz. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Latusek, of Spring Hill, Fla.

Ted graduated from Fairview High School and Fairmont State University. He was a draftee of the Army in 1970 and served in New Jersey until 1972. Ted was a longwall operations coordinator with Consolidated Coal Company. Upon his retirement, he supported Habitat for Humanity, Project Graduation, CASA, Marion County Teen Court, Shalom and Journey Ecumenical Youth Group in Fairmont. Ted was also a member of the Fairmont Marion County Rotary Club. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and then Life UMC, Fairmont and Good News UMC, Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.

Ted enjoyed traveling, fishing and swapping stories. In lieu of flowers, Ted requested that donations be made to Donate Life America and Relay for Life. The family is appreciative of all of the medical care he received in West Virginia, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Florida.

A celebration of life and reception is being planned at Life UMC, 3000 Technology Drive, Fairmont, WV 26554, at 1 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 26.
