No. 6 Cameron defeats Clay-Battelle handily in absence of Carson Shriver

BLACKSVILLE — Carson Shriver sat out Friday night with an injury, and for the Clay-Battelle football team, it showed.

The Cee-Bees were shut out by No. 6 Cameron, 42-0, in a game with major state playoff implications.

Behind a whopping 387 rushing yards, the Dragons (8-0) seemed to have this game in the bag from the very beginning. The battle on the line was heavily in favor of Cameron and the Cee-Bees (5-2) didn’t seem to have an answer.

They tried to run, and when that didn’t work, C-B tried to pass, which worked for a few plays (six completed passes for 25 yards) but ultimately, nothing was enough to match the Dragons.

Cameron running back Payton Neely rushed for 174 yards on only nine carries, while scoring two touchdowns. His first a 9-yard run in the first quarter that opened the scoring for his team.

His second touchdown, the biggest play on the night for the Dragons, was a 74-yard touchdown run where Neely wasn’t even touched.

Clay-Battelle only managed 55 total yards of offense, as the absence of Shriver weighed on the offense and defense.

The Dragons added two touchdowns on defense also, the first a forced fumble that was scooped up and ran in after a bad snap from C-B on a fourth down.

Then in the second half, a pass from C-B was intercepted and ran back for a pick six that made the score 35-0.

Gunner Lilley added the final touchdown of the night for the Dragons on a run from 4-yards out, for the final score.

The Cee-Bees will look to get healthy before hitting the road next week for a game against Hancock, Md.
