Rebecca S. Mercer, 72, of Morgantown, passed away on Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, at Mon Health Medical Center.
She was born in Morgantown on Feb. 17, 1950, a daughter of the late Phillip and Dolly Kirk Hines.
Rebecca is survived by her children, Monica and husband Darrell Fox, Stevie and wife Tammy Pirlo, Kimberly and husband Gary Simmons and Laura and husband Stephen Sutherland; grandchildren, Carrie Dalton, Joey Fox, Gracie and Riley Simmons, Luka and Cole Sutherland, Paisley Dalton and her future granddaughter Raelyn Sutherland; sisters, Marlene McCarty, and Kathy and husband Mark Switzer; her brother, Johnny and wife Lynn Hines; sisters-in-law, Penny Hines and Sandy Hines; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Mercer; her brothers, Jimmy, Ronnie and Michael Hines; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Becky lived for the holidays and would always get excited for Christmas to come around. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and sister who always took the needs of others in consideration well before her own.
Friends may join the family to honor Becky’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown, WV 26501, from 11 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, officiated by Father Andy Switzer. Immediately following the funeral service, she will be laid to rest at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
