Edward E. (Gene) Pugh, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 23, 2022. He was born June 15, 1931, a son of the late Andrew Raymond and Nellie May Pugh, in the community of Gans, Pa., but has been a long-time resident in the Morgantown area.
He attended Point Marion High School and entered the United States Air Force in September 1952. In 1954, he began the 67-year marriage to the love of his life, Irmadell (Adams) Pugh. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in November 1956, then moved back to Morgantown to begin his career as a long-haul tractor-trailer driver for the Sterling Faucet Company. In 1964, he began working at the Osage No. 3 mine for Consolidation Coal Company, where he retired in June 1993 with 29 and a half years in the coal industry. He was a member of Local Union 4043.
He was a lifelong fan of the WVU Mountaineers, an avid golfer and member of the Pines Country Club since 1983. He was an active member at Calvary Baptist Church, where he held the position of deacon and served on numerous church committees.
He is survived by a daughter, Christie Bonner, her husband Danny and two dearly loved grandchildren and their spouses, Derek and wife Kelly Bonner and Ashley and husband Travis Ritchie; two great-grandchildren, Kate and Noah Bonner; and two sisters-in-law, Patty Weaver and Barbara Adams. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Irmadell (Adams) Pugh; an infant son, Randall Lee Pugh; four sisters, Pauline Lyons, Marie Kingan, Mildred Cimello and Edna Ciekala; three brothers Carl, Arlie “Mick” and Clifford “Junior” Pugh. He was the last survivor of his immediate family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all his care team: family doctor, William Mitchell, of Wedgewood Family Practice, Aminda, Sabrina and the rest of the Amedysis Hospice team who assisted in the care of Gene, as well as the care workers Brynn, Gabby, Jen, Katie, Lisa and Marcy. We appreciate all your love, care and support for Gene.
Family and friends will be received at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home, from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m. on Friday with Pastors Ron Lindholm and Doug Strother officiating. Services will also be live streamed on Gene’s memorial page at www.fredjenkinsfuneralhome.com. Gene will be laid to rest at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
