Fairmont Road collision sends one to hospital

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle accident on Fairmont Road Friday morning – approximately one-quarter-mile from the old Arnettsville School.

Chief Deputy Mark Ralston said the accident was reported at 8:48 a.m. and involved a tractor-trailer traveling southbound and Chevrolet Equinox traveling northbound on Fairmont Road — U.S. 19.

Ralston said the accident is still under investigation, but it was apparent – and also according to a witness – that the driver of the Chevrolet crossed over into the path of the on-coming tractor-trailer causing the two vehicles to collide, disabling both.

The driver of the Equinox was transported by Mon EMS to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital for injuries that appeared to be non-life-threatening. Nothing more was released about the driver in time for this report.

Neither vehicle carried passengers other than the drivers.

Morning motorists in the area encountered several emergency vehicles, including fire trucks, police cars, ambulances and rescue vehicles.

Rivesville, Westover and River Road volunteer fire departments also responded to the accident.
