Doctor still missing one month after disappearance

It has been over a month since law enforcement began searching for Dr. John Magruder, 39, of Morgantown, a local child neurologist affiliated with WVU Medicine, who was last seen July 27.

Detectives with the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department continue to investigate the doctor’s disappearance; however, department officials said Tuesday there is no new information they are able to release at this point.

When asked if the detectives were still receiving new leads on the case, Chief Deputy Mark Ralston said there was nothing they were able to discuss at this time.

Search parties from multiple law enforcement agencies and search-and-rescue groups initially began looking for Magruder at Coopers Rock State Forest on July 29, when Magruder’s car was found there.

Crews searched over 842 acres of the park until the search was suspended by the sheriff’s department the following Monday — Aug. 1.

Other than Magruder’s vehicle being found at the park, little else has been released on his possible whereabouts. Investigators have not said if they believe he left on his own or if foul play is suspected.

Magruder is described as a white male, 5-foot-11, and weighing approximately 260 pounds.

The sheriff’s department will continue to follow any leads on Magruder and asks anyone who has information to call the Mon County Sheriff’s Office at 304-291-7260.
