Mary Phillips

Mary E. Phillips, 88, of Morgantown, passed away on Monday, Aug. 16, 2022, at Evergreen Assisted Living with her family by her side.

Mary was born in Morgantown on Aug. 24, 1933, to the late Broze and Mary Bowser Starkey.

Mary worked for many years at Hills Department Store and was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mary enjoyed traveling, camping, bingo, knitting and playing board games. Above all, she loved her family and spending time with them.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Janette Gidley (Roger) of Morgantown; sons, David Malinovich (Toni) of Morgantown, and Marshall Phillips of Morgantown; a niece, who was more like a daughter, Gina Spencer (Drew); grandchildren, Bryce Gidley (MaCee), Shanna Sites (Caleb), Adam Phillips, Matthew Phillips (Christina), Jacob Malinovich (Kelsi) and Marissa Malinovich; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Justin Malinovich and Allen Phillips; daughter-in-law, Dawn Phillips; sister Pauline Staley; and her brother, Steven Harley “Buddy” Starkey.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to her special friend Eugene and the staff at Evergreen for the love and compassion given to Mary.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Mary’s memory to the comfort fund at WVU Medicine Children’s hospital.

Family and friends are invited to gather in support of the family at McCulla Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, from 4-8 p.m. and again on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. until the

11 a.m. funeral service with Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
