James Dove

James Lucian Dove, 91, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, in Venice, Fla.

Born in Williamson, he was a son of the late Ernest and Flo Dove. Mr. Dove was an Army Intelligence Corps veteran. He worked as the state supervisor for SCS Soil Conservation Service for
26 years. When he retired at the age of 55, he and his wife moved to Surfside Beach, S.C., where he began working and volunteered for the City of Surfside Beach building hurricane proof restrooms along the coast as well as many other projects. He was involved in the Full Gospel Businessmen, was a teacher of home bible study for 40 years, a treasurer of South Strand Helping Hand for 20-plus years, an elder of Surfside Presbyterian Church and taught bible studies at National Health Service Nursing Home for over
17 years. Mr. Dove was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Belle Dove.

Survivors include his daughters, Brenda Reed, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Patricia Dove, of Venice, Fla., and Holly Curry, of Venice, Fla.; a son, James B. Dove, of Chiefland, Fla.; a granddaughter, Wendy Dove; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Bethany and Cameron; and great-great-grandchildren, Eden and Atlas.

A funeral service will be held at Surfside Presbyterian Church, at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12. Burial with family only will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel, from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to any of the following charities in his name: Alzheimer’s Association, Special Olympics, Wounded Warrior Project or to South Strand Helping Hand.
