On the night of July, 26, 2022, Carol Jean Boyers received the call she’d waited and prepared for all of her life. Being an offer she couldn’t refuse, she will not be returning to us. This assignment comes with a tremendous sign-on bonus, a reunion with the love of her life, her mother and daddy and so many family friends and fur babies she loved waiting for her.
Carol was born Sept. 21, 1946, in Charleston, to the late Glenn and Loretta Reynolds Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Leonard Boyers, on March 5, 2007. She was a 1964 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Carol had worked at Owens Illinois, where she met her husband, and then retired in 2015 from Fairmont State College where she worked for over 16 years in the dining hall and was most affectionately known as “Miss Carol.” She was awarded the 2013-2014 Outstanding Student Service Staff Award and was the first non-teacher to be voted on by the students. Carol and her husband were fans of WVU football and were season ticket holders for many years, she also enjoyed watching “her kids” at her special seat at Fairmont State College football games.
She loved God first and raised her girls to have a strong faith. She loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all of her grand-animals making sure to list each and every one to tell she loved them before she hung up the phone, never saying good-bye just telling you she would talk to you later.
Carol had many close friends with whom she loved spending time. She spent many hours and days porch sitting, bird watching and working her puzzle books (she had them all over her home). If she saw a person in need, she would do all she could to help.
Carol is survived by her daughters, Laura L. and John Chapman, of Proctorville, Ohio, Janie and Jason Hawkins, of Jane Lew, and Patricia “Trish” and Jayson Higgins, of Anna, Ohio; her grandchildren, Gary Michael Chapman, Ashlee Marie and Jordan Schneider, Delaney Jayne Higgins and Joshua Everett Hawkins; and her great-grandchildren, Brynlee Jayne Schneider and Raelynn Rowe Schneider. She is also survived by her sister, Rebecca Jane and Michael Godfrey, of Mohrsville, Pa.; her brother-in-law, Jerry and Carol Boyers, of Fairmont; several nieces and nephews; and her grand-animals that she loved as if they were her children.
In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by her in-laws, Leonard and Ruthlee Boyers.
In her honor, the family requests that as a memorial donation, you do something to help someone in need as she taught them to do, and most important, to pray for them.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont. Friends and family are invited to visit from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, and from noon-2 p.m. on Sunday, July 31. The funeral will be held in the funeral home, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, with the Rev. Brad Bennett officiating. Friends and family will meet at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, and drive in procession to a graveside service to be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont where interment will follow.
