Michael Tichnell, 62, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born in Shinnston, on May 1, 1960, a son of the late Daniel and Alice Tichnell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Richard Hayhurst and Robert Tichnell; and sister, Betsy Hayhurst.
Michael is survived by his three daughters, Stephanie (B.J.) Nethken, Linda (Anthony) Gesmondi and Stacy (Timothy) Robertson; brothers, Glenn Tichnell, Roger Hayhurst, Randy Tichnell, Larry Tichnell, Danny Lee Tichnell, Warren Tichnell and Robert Hayhurst; sisters, Susie Skidmore and Margie Heldreth; and grandchildren, David Thompson III, Kendra Nethken, Fedela Gesmondi, Georgianna Gesmondi and Josh Gesmond.
Michael always lived his life to the fullest and marched to the beat of his own drum. He was a true outdoorsman, having a deep love of hunting, fishing and camping with his family. Many great memories were made sitting by the fire, spending time with the people he cared most about. However, his adventurous spirit wasn’t limited to the outdoors; he could often be found singing karaoke and dancing in his own style, as well as writing award-winning poetry. To many, he was like a second father, and he will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched in his own special way.
Family and friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, July 8, and from noon until the time of service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Following the service, Michael will be laid to rest at Bethel Cemetery.
