John Potter

John Gregory Potter went to be with the Lord on July 6, 2022, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born on Feb. 14, 1953, in Charleston, the son of the late Robert Clarence Potter Sr. and Jessie Lambert Potter.

John attended Winfield High School and graduated from WVU with a master’ degree. He and his wife of 37 years moved to Winston-Salem in 1986. John retired from the Forsyth County Tax office and then went on to retire from the NC DOT as a right of way appraiser. The job he would never retire from was P-pap to his nine grandchildren. John enjoyed fishing, taking his grandchildren everywhere and never missed watching WVU sports. He was a devoted member of Piedmont Fellowship Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Potter; his five children: Patrick (Jackie) Kelley, of Tunnelton, Matthew (Kristina) Kelley, of Tobaccoville, N.C., Jonathan (Melissa) Potter, of Simpsonville, S.C., Carol (Bill) Strosnider, of Monroe, N.C., and Jennifer Breen, of Alexandria, Va.; sister, Alleta Macmer; and three nieces, Jessica, Cathy and Cindy. He was adored by his grandchildren, Kelli and Jerri Strosnider, Brooklynn, Haley, Savannah and Andrew Kelley and Nora and Stella Potter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Will Strosnider (age 5), and two brothers, Robert C and William David Potter.
A funeral service will be held at the Salem Reynolda Chapel, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, with visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 8.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
