Billie Slussar

Billie Dove Slussar, 94, of Morgantown, died Saturday, June 18, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Feb. 9, 1928, in Harrison County, the daughter of the late Willard B. Orr and Bernice Fox Orr.

Billie attended Bridgeport High School and graduated from Victory High School. After high school and during World War II, Billie was enrolled in the Cadet Nurse Corps program and graduated from the Union Protestant Hospital School of Nursing in Clarksburg.

Billie’s career was predominantly in the area of surgical nursing at West Virginia University Medical Center. During that time, she was instrumental in establishing the first outpatient surgical unit at WUMC. She was very active in the Association of Operating Room Nurses and was a past president of AORN, North Central Chapter.

Billie was an active charter member of Covenant Church, Morgantown and was the first woman to serve on the Board of Stewards. Billie and her husband, Bond, founded the Health and Welfare Ministry at Covenant, which continues to feed 150-200 people monthly. Two of many ministries she was actively involved with include missions and senior saints.

Billie is survived by her two daughters, Diane Hanlon and her husband, Joe, of Pittsburgh, and Sharon Bordinat and her husband, Mike, of Morgantown; five grandchildren; seve great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bonnie Benedum and her husband, John, of Charlotte, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bond, and her brother, Robert Orr, and his wife, Betty Jo.

Billie’s family gives special thanks to West Virginia Medicine Hospice, who provided excellent care and support.

A celebration of life service will be held at Covenant Church, 802 Green Bag Road, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022. McCulla Funeral Home has provided cremation services and is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Billie’s memory to Health and Welfare Ministry at Covenant Church.
