Online — and on the calendar

The superintendent will see you now.

Monongalia County’s school district is on summer break, but you can still have an audience with Superintendent Eddie Campbell Jr., if you want one.

Just visit the district website — https://boe.mono.k12.wv.us — and click on the “Conversations with the Superintendent” link, which went online recently.

There, you’ll find an open-ended series of prompts and questions designed to spark dialogue.

“Briefly describe your idea for improving your school or the school district,” reads one.

Another: “If any, what concern do you have about the direction that Monongalia County Schools is moving with the advancement of your child’s education?”

The link also gives information on Local School Improvement Council groups, which are located at every school in the district — along with factoids on when the Board of Education meets and how its gatherings are streamed online for the benefit of those who can’t attend.

You’ll also find information on Campbell’s Superintendent’s Advisory Council, which meets once a month, said Teresa Nass, the district’s communications coordinator.

The goal, Nass said, is to “provide a voice,” for parents and anyone else with concerns about what’s happening is the classroom, main hallway and playing field.

Campbell’s advisory council is set for another meeting in coming days, Nass said.

There’s also his “Message from the Superintendent” outreach, which crosses several social media platforms, the coordinator added.

The school shootings in Uvalde, Texas, last month prompted Campbell to use that particular forum to announce that school patrols at Mon’s three public high schools would be stepped up for the remainder of the year.

Same for when he informed the community that high-tech weapons detectors were going to be in use at the same three schools starting this fall.

In the meantime, Nass reports, the district’s website is undergoing an upgrade.

A streamlined, updated version designed to be more user-friendly rolls out July 21, she said.
