Woman charged with battery on a government employee after biting transport officer

A Marion County woman was charged with battery on a government employee after allegedly shoving and biting a Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department transport officer.

According to a criminal complaint, on June 11, Deputy Ward was notified by a transport division officer of an assault that occurred at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.

The complaint said Transport Officer Krocker stated she was transporting inmate Danielle R. Saunders, 35, of Baxter, back from the hospital.

Saunders was in custody for a warrant out of Marion County and had requested medical treatment, the complaint said.

Krocker stated Saunders “shoved her against a wall and bit her arm” as she was fastening the inmate’s seat belt in the transport van.

Ward noted in the complaint that Krocker had “a clear imprint of a bite mark on her right arm,” for which she received treatment at the hospital.

Witnesses at the hospital were interviewed and said they saw Saunders fight with Krocker and bite her, the complaint said.  Saunders also admitted to biting the officer.

Ward stated that Krocker was a fully uniformed officer and Saunders was clearly in the department’s custody.

Saunders’ bond was set at $5,000.  She is currently being held at North Central Regional Jail.
