Breezeline activates local broadband service to become area’s second home service provider

MORGANTOWN — A new broadband provider is coming to the area: Breezeline, formerly known as Atlantic Broadband.

Breezeline signed a franchise agreement with the city of Morgantown last fall to join Comcast as one of the area’s two providers. The company formally announced it would be coming to West Virginia in November.

The company has already activated service in the Cheat Lake area, it said in a press release. Brookhaven and the city of Morgantown will go online later this month. Westover, Granville and Star City will see service in early 2023.

Breezeline offers high speed “Fiber-to-the-Home” connection. It offers internet speeds of 200/200 Mbps, 500/500 Mbps and 1,000/1,000 Mbps (1 Gigabit) with no data caps. Breezeline will install fiber directly to each home or business.

Business-class internet is available with speeds up to 100/100, 200/200, 500/500, 750/750, 1,000/1,000 Mbps.

In an email exchange, Andrew Walton, head of corporate communications, pointed out that, as the numbers show, download and upload speeds are equal.

Breezeline also offers Breezeline Stream TV, a cloud-based TV service that integrates live TV, DVR, On Demand and streaming apps such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, and Disney+. The service can be viewed on devices inside and outside the home.

Walton said, “Unlike traditional TVs and set-top boxes that receive the TV signal over coaxial cable, Breezeline Stream TV uses Internet Protocol TV technology with the home’s WiFi network.”

Breezeline Stream TV has voice command capability with Google Assistant to find a show, open an app, check the weather, or get program recommendations. And with the free Breezeline Stream TV app, he said, viewers can watch outside the home, including live TV and recordings with Cloud DVR.

The company set up its local hub on a portion of the site of what was the Sabraton Elementary School, which was demolished in 2019.

Subscription prices, Walton said, start at $29.99 per month for 24 months for the choice of internet speed (200 Mbps, 500 Mbps or 1 Gig). Price includes equipment. Breezeline Stream TV or Voice services can be added.

Breezeline participates in the Affordable Connectivity Program and provides a discount of up to $30 per month toward broadband service for eligible households, and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands.

Along with West Virginia, Breezeline also operates in Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.
