Kathleen Brooks

Dr. Kathleen Patricia Brooks (nee Concannon), 85, died about midnight, May 21, 2022, at Mon Health Medical Center. She was born in San Jose, Calif., but had been a resident of the Morgantown area for the last 55 years, living at The Village at Heritage Point for the last three years. Kathleen was a biochemist (Ph.D., UC Davis, 1967) and a certified clinical chemist (training at Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, N.Y., 1987). Aside from being a wife and mother, she was variously employed at West Virginia University and the University Hospital during her working years.

Kathleen leaves behind a husband, James Brooks, and three siblings: Elizabeth Gross, Fran Stewart and Patrick Concannon. Her living children are Paul Brooks and Jeffrey Mierzejewska, while her son, David Brooks, preceded her in death. Daughters-in-law include Kseniya (Christie) Mierzejewska and Ayumi Brooks. She leaves behind four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Kathleen was devout in her Catholic faith and was an Oblate in the Benedictine order. She was passionate about her scientific curiosity and enjoyed professional symposia to remain current in her field. Her hobbies included swimming, tennis, skiing and enjoying the beautiful nature of West Virginia and the Sierra Nevada mountains.
