Sheriff’s office warns about jury duty phone scam

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office is warning local residents about an ongoing phone scam in the area.

The caller identifies themselves as Lt. Forbes from the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department and tells the resident they have missed jury duty.

The caller then says the person needs to send money to avoid arrest.

Sheriff Perry Palmer wants everyone to know these calls are fraudulent and are not coming from their office.

The sheriff advises residents to always verify such calls by contacting the department.

If you receive a call you believe to be false, call 304-291-7260 or visit the sheriff’s office in-person at 116 Walnut St. in Morgantown.
