Morgantown artists to be featured at the Parkersburg Art Center

West Virginia Watercolor Society is pleased to announce “Aqueous Plus 2022,” exhibiting Friday through June 7 at the Parkersburg Art Center in Parkersburg.

Several Morgantown artists are represented in the exhibition: Jamie Lester, with “Cheat River Haze” and “Pools of the Big Sandy”; Janet Michael, with “Undersea View” and “Spring Thaw”; Greg Kullman, with “River of Coal”; and Kathleen Snoderly, with “Reflections.”

The exhibition features three displays in three galleries.

Gallery One: “Aqueous 2022” — $2,300-$2,800 in awards will be granted in the form of Best of Show, Awards of Excellence, Awards of Merit, Honorable Mentions. There are 47 paintings that have been accepted out of numerous submissions created in a water-based aqueous manner; the submissions were from six states in total: Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia.

Gallery Two: Signature Show — works by West Virginia Watercolor Society Signature Members only here. One award available, and it will be The People’s Choice Award; in-person votes tallied at end of the exhibition.

Gallery Three: The Jose Rizo Collection — comprised mostly of early 20th century art, Ashcan Art, Regionalist and WPA-related art. In the collection, all art media are represented, from watercolors and oils to pastels, drawings, and etchings.

The Juror is Laurie Goldstein-Warren.

Originally from New York, Goldstein-Warren now lives near Buckhannon. For the past 23 years, she has been painting in watercolors. Laurie continues to experiment with new techniques in watercolor and watercolor/acrylic. She has exhibited her work in the U.S., Japan, Turkey, Greece, Canada, and China. A signature member of the American Watercolor Society, and Transparent Watercolor Society of America, she now is a popular workshop presenter in the United States. With the onset of COVID, Laurie also has been teaching workshops online. Her works have also been published in many watercolor books and magazines including Watercolor Artist and WV Living magazine. A reception will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday at Parkersburg Art Center. Award winners will be posted on the WVWS website after the opening.
