Strawberries make the foundation

There’s still time to order your strawberries from the Morgantown High School Foundation.

In fact, it’s never been easier, foundation member Stephanie Lorenze said.

These days, you’ll find a QR code on flyers advertising the sale, which had been put on hold for the past two years, courtesy of the coronavirus.

Just scan the code with your phone for the order form, she said. Or go to Facebook or the foundation’s online page.

Don’t have the QR code to scan? Visit https://form.jotform.com/220243987905159. Orders are being accepted through Friday.

“We’ve found that as we’re going into, hopefully, our post-pandemic world, that people want convenience. We just want to make it easy for everyone.”

That’s because the foundation wants to do the same for the academic life at the school on Wilson Avenue.

Over the years it has funded grants and scholarships, including one in honor of Mary Petropoulus — or, “Ms. P.,” as the beloved teacher was known — who taught at MHS for 35 years.

In terms of the intellectual rigor that was required, her classes in psychology and European history were hardly “easy,” but she still made them entertaining, with her outsized personality.

Dollars from the foundation buy additional textbooks and teaching materials, while funding trips for MHS students representing their school in national competitions. In coming weeks, it will help subsidize the History Bowl team, which is vying for a national championship.

It most recently contributed to expenses for culinary students taking instruction from chefs at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs.

Strawberries are sold at $34 for a full flat (about 12 pints) and $17 for a half flat. Donations without buying strawberries are also appreciated, the foundation said.

Orders will be available for pick-up between 10 a.m.-6 p.m. May 6 in the WVU Coliseum parking lot.
