Madeline A. (Christner) Cupelli, 93, of Morgantown, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, at the Village at Heritage Point. Born Dec. 3, 1928, in Fairmont, she was the only child of the late Anna Marie (Mori) and Kenneth Christner.
This gentle and selfless woman lived her life devoted to her family. She met the love of her life, Richard through her mother, who worked with Richard at the Houze Glass Factory in Point Marion, Pa. Madeline was just 16 years old when they married and they shared 71 wonderful years until Richard’s passing in November 2016.
After starting their family in Point Marion, Pa., they moved to Morgantown when their daughter and son were very young. Madeline stayed home to raise their children until she took a job with West Virginia University at the WVU Bookstore. She worked her way up to manager and managed both the Evansdale and Medical Center Book Stores. She was fortunate to have enjoyed several years of retirement by living in New Port Ritchey, Fla. for the winter months and enjoying many activities, including bocce, pool, shuffle board, exercise and dances.
Madeline was a hard worker, but always made her family a priority, making many beautiful memories over the years with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was a loving mother to her daughter, Nancy, who cannot thank her enough for being the best role-model a daughter could ever have. She had a special bond with her son, Jim, with whom she shared her quick wit and sense of humor. She was so proud of her grandchildren, Tricia and Todd, as well as her great-grandchildren, Connor and Jessica, whom she loved dearly.
Surviving are her two children, Richard “Jim” Cupelli Jr., of Morgantown, and Nancy Green, of Washington, Pa.; two grandchildren, James “Todd” (Laura Torres) Green, of Asheville, N.C. and Tricia (Jim) Suschak, of Morgantown; two great-grandchildren, Connor Torres Green and Jessica Suschak; a brother-in-law, Joseph (Barbara) Cupelli, of Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition, to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Cupelli; three sisters-in-law, Juanita Swanger, Virginia Cupelli and Phyllis Cupelli; two brothers-in-law, Emile Cupelli Jr. and Roy Swanger; a daughter-in-law, Debra Cupelli; a son-in-law, Frank Diettinger; a niece, Gloria (Swanger) Reynolds; and a grand-niece, Jennifer Swanger.
Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, Pa., from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. hour of a blessing service on Thursday, March 3. Interment follows in Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Morgantown Hospice Care and the staff at the Village at Heritage Point for the care given to Madeline in her final days. Thanks also to everyone who knew Madeline for blessing her with a wonderful life, full of friends, laughter and love.
