A look at bills introduced Friday, Feb. 18

MORGANTOWN — Here is a look at some of the bills introduced on Friday, Feb. 18. Local sponsors and co-sponsors, if any, are noted.

SB 671, to modernize the law governing ride-sharing services.

SB 672, to exempt certain military veterans and their dependents from tuition.

SB 678, to create a credit against the severance tax to encourage private companies to make infrastructure improvements to highways, roads and bridges in this state.

SB 679, to require reports to be given to the commissioner of the Division of Motor Vehicles when a health care provider or law-enforcement officer has reason to believe that a motor vehicle driver may suffer from a condition which renders the driver incapable of operating a motor vehicle safely. Sen. Dave Sypolt, R-Preston, co-sponsor.

SB 684, to prohibit the relocation, removal, alteration, or renaming, of any statue, monument, memorial, nameplate, or plaque which is located on public property and has been erected for, or named, or dedicated in honor of certain historical military, labor, civil rights, and Native American events, figures, and organizations. Officially called the West Virginia Monument and Memorial Protection Act, it has previously been nicknamed the Confederate Monument Protection Act.

HCR 80 was introduced on Thursday. It seeks to designate Blackwater Falls the official state waterfall. Delegates Terri Sypolt and Buck Jennings, both R-Preston, co-sponsors.
