
Alan D. McDonald, commonly known as “Thool” or “Mac,” 91, of Morgantown, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022, at Madison Center. He was born in Morgantown on Dec. 15, 1930, son of the late Brooks Nelson and Ida Ann (Murray) McDonald.
Dale proudly served in the Army during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a longtime member of Burns Chapel and Word of Life Tabernacle. He retired after a lifetime career as a coal miner at the Osage #3 mines.
Left to cherish his memories are his children, Sandy Hawkins (Jesse) and Debra Shrout (Dave), both of Morgantown; grandchildren: Dale, Tyson and Chad Hawkins, Heather Johnson, Shannon Schmidt and David T. Shrout, all of Morgantown; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marion McDonald; sisters, Edith Dalton and Shirley Minton; and brother, Delbert McDonald.
Friends and family will be received at Nicholson Chapel, Summer School Road, Morgantown, from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17. Visitaion will continue from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 18, with the Rev. Elmer “Scoop” Nicholson and Pastor Donna Dalton officiating. Interment will follow at Nicholson Cemetery with full military honors.
